William of Orange invades (02:47)
William lands a large Dutch force in Brixham, Devon. Defeated and captured, James VII is allowed to escape to France. Parliament states that with this act James has abdicated and William and his Stuart wife, Mary, are declared King and Queen. The Scots are not consulted.
The Act of Union (05:48)
Years of poor harvests and near bankruptcy due to the Darien fiasco led to Scotland appealing to the English parliament for financial aid. Aid arrived in the form of the Union.
Jacobite invasion plan, 1708 (02:59)
Jacobite plans for a French invasion of Scotland fail due to atrocious weather.
The 1715 Rising (04:26)
The Earl of Mar raises the Stuart standard at Braemar. James Francis Edward Stuart returns from exile but the Rising fails after James Francis loses his nerve.
